Restoration Hardware Style Industrial Shelving

This was a project that my husband and I really enjoyed.  We made these industrial shelves for around $30.  We purchased two boards from the local hardware store that measured 10" by 36" x 2".  Then we took them home and beat them with anything that we could get our hands on including a hammer, chains, crowbar and my husband even lightly torched it in a couple of areas.  We wanted it to have the look of worn wood and not a brand new piece of lumber from the store.

We used a mixture of Minwax Jacobean and Minwax Weathered Gray to stain the wood.  I feel like we used about 60% Classic Gray and about 40% Jacobean so just play around with it and try to put the stain on some sample pieces of wood until you get exactly the color that you are looking for. Use a container to mix the two stains in and then apply with a brush or cloth and then wipe it off.  We tried to make it look like old barnwood and since it was our first real staining project, I was not trying for perfection but we were really pleased with how they turned out.

The brackets actually came from the plumbing section of the hardware store.  It basically consists of a 10" pipe, a cap and a d a flange that fits perfectly on the end.  We painted them with some Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze and then handy hubby mounted them on the wall.  I really love how they turned out and will add some close up photos of the plumbing flanges as soon as I can.
